Different means of conveyance.

Palanquin = roofed chair with a comfortable arrangement.

The Palanquin here is surely used by governor Lauritz Christensen, when the drawing is dated 1830.
In the drawing he is surrounded by life guards. Five persons - 4 in front and 1 behind - are Indian policemen - the so-called pions. - It was a comfortable way of transport at that time.

The old train.

This old and beauty steam locomotive (A), which has run from and to Tranquebar since the construction of the railroad in 1920-ties, ran its last journey in the summer 1986.
Probably the distance was Tranquebar-Mayuram.
The permanent way is a 1-m wide track as many others in this South Indian landscape.
The railway code is TQB in The Southern India Railway System.
The railroad stopped working on 1986.12.31.

The train for Tranquebar which was the last station, was closed in1986.
The photo shows the station building in 1968.
Now the building is removed. On this place and to-day  (2003) there only is a tree.

The tsunami tragedy was terrible for Tranquebar. Where the old station was the place now (from Dec. 2004) is a mass grave.

On the railroad Tranquebar-Mayuram the train passed several bridges.
The photo shows the old bridge north of Thillaiyadi.
